For the University College of Teacher Education Carinthia interculturality and multilingualism is eminently important. It does not only matter because of the special regional situation but also because of it. We attempt to live linguistic and cultural diversity; we cooperate and build networks regionally, nationwide and internationally.
The last years’ focus was on the above mentioned areas. The results yielded into curricular contributions, publications, research activities, cross-border projects, setting of priorities, and the development of bilingual education (Slovene and German).
Multilingualism and intercultural education serve as adequate preparatory concepts for future teachers to engage in and react to current global developments in multilingual as well as culturally diverse classrooms.
In view of Carinthia's historic and cultural situation, the Slovene language is gaining relevance in projects as well as in teacher training, continued education, and in advanced training for teachers of the minority school education.
The range of the institute`s tasks include the organization, realization, and evaluation of teaching in teacher training, in continued education, and in advanced training for teachers. The institute promotes co-operations with educational partners on a national and international level, the development of research initiatives; and it provides sustainable measurements for quality assurance.
