To give you a small impression about the place you are going to visit, please read this short information about Klagenfurt. Klagenfurt am Wörthersee is the capital of one of the nine Austrian counties - Carinthia. This town has nearly 100.000 inhabitants. Klagenfurt is located next to the lake called Wörthersee, but also between the Alps and the Sea, near to Slovenia and Italy (Alpe-Adria-Region).
It is located in the triangle of the three different cultures: Austrian, Italian and Slovenian. Those who are active can do sports during the four seasons. The whole year you can find cultural events, not only in Klagenfurt but in whole of Carinthia. TAKE YOUR CHANCE, YOU ARE WELCOME!
The University College of Teacher Education organised the “Erasmus+ Info Day” hosted by the Office for International Affairs on May 28th. This event has usually been held at the institution during the International Week, but due to the Covid-19 situation and the Austrian government restrictions, it took place virtually this time.
The Dean of the UCTE, Mrs Marlies Krainz-Dürr, had the opening words in which she welcomed all the participants, hoped for more luck in the next semester and mentioned how UCTE managed to answer and help all the students during the pandemic. After the introductory part, one of the coordinators from the International Office, Eva Lurz, talked about the meaning, value and importance of Erasmus+ Info Day and about the effects of the crisis on the work with the international students and on education in general.
The participants of the Erasmus+ Info Day were international students and professors but also local staff and students interested in the work of the Office or in the mobility programmes that are offered in certain co-operations with worldwide partner-institutions.
In the centre of the Erasmus+ Info Day were presentations of incoming students from ten different countries: Belarus, Germany, Finland, Spain, Turkey, Moldova, Switzerland, Montenegro, Ukraine and Chile. We also heard a lot about mobility programmes and the way of working with students from representatives of the International Offices of Belarus, Chile, Switzerland and the Ukraine. One group of local students presented the history of our institution, the educational system of Austria and its culture and history with the focus on Carinthia as a region that represents multiculturalism and a place where incoming students are living. In addition, the Info Day provided real space for discussions between the local students and staff and representatives of the Erasmus+ or CEEPUS programme from all over the world.
We would like to thank our partners for taking part in this event and answering all the questions about student life in their country, international study programmes and the support they are offering to incoming students through different methods like Buddy Programme, excursions, sports activities, etc. A special thank goes to our assistant from the International Office, Milica Marković, for hosting and moderating the event.
